Spandan Banerjee has directed and produced over 100 films including advertising
films, short films, social and cultural documentary films under his film company
Overdose Films. For the last 14 years, he has been consistently directing and
producing stories and branded content of cinematic excellence.
His short advertising non-fiction work includes the widely appreciated set of 6 films
for J&K Tourism in association with National Geographic Channel. The success of
this campaign led to replicating a similar model for Odisha Tourism with a set of 3
films on cultural heritage. His other advertising work includes brands like Horlicks,
Orient, NIIT, Incredible India, British High Commission, Goethe Institute, Pratham
and UNICEF. He has also directed the popular music series TANDANU with MTV &
Seagrams featuring stalwarts like Shankar Mahadevan, Pandit Vishwamohan Bhatt,
Vishal Dadlani, Subha Mudgal and V. Selvaganesh.
His independent film BEWARE DOGS premiered at the International Film Festival of
Rotterdam in 2008. It was one of a kind and the first contemporary music
documentary from?India.?TO-LET (60 mins, 2013) and ENGLISH INDIA (75 mins,
2015) were commissioned by DD National and have also been showcased and
awarded at international films festivals including HOTDOCS Toronto and IDSFFK
Kerala. He received the National Award for his documentary YOU DON’T BELONG
in 2012, a film on music and migration.
He has served as Juror at various national and international film festivals. He is a
trained commercial artist and cartoonist, which remains an integral part of all his film
and design work. He is currently developing his next two feature film projects, and
shooting his next documentary on listening habits of music. He also runs
OVERDOSE LOCAL, a collective independent film space for first time writers and
filmmakers.
